Start a business while taking a class

Only five hours of sleep a day

The shop, called Bean Sprout Cafe, was founded by four young people during their college years. Two of them have graduated and two are still in their first year of graduate study at Southwest University of political Science and Law.

Xu Tao, 25, was the leader of the four. at that time, he found that there was no special cafe around the school, and he liked the atmosphere of the cafe very much, so he decided to open a cafe nearby. The other three partners I knew as soon as I entered the school agreed as soon as I heard Xu Tao's entrepreneurial idea.

At the beginning of the business, the four people collected their pocket money, scholarships, living expenses and part-time money together and raised a total of 100000 yuan in start-up capital. In August 2010, they rented a second-floor shop of about 4000 square meters on a neighboring street not far from the school for nearly 4000 yuan.

In order to save money, it is up to them to figure out ways to decorate and purchase equipment. The second-hand market panned tables, chairs and accessories, then came back to paint the walls, paid homage to senior baristas, and studied coffee technology. it took almost two months for the cafe to officially open for business.

Since they opened the coffee shop, Xu Tao has been a little too busy. "they have lost 13 jin a month. In order to run a good coffee shop, they often go to bed at 2 am and have to get up for class at 7 am." Tired as it is, everyone thinks it's worth it.

A monthly loss of 5000 yuan

They combine coffee with books

Before opening the store, all four people have made a clear division of labor, some are responsible for online and offline publicity, some are responsible for operation, some are responsible for finance, but there are not many customers who have been open for nearly a week. Familiar classmates come to help with the scene, and there are only a handful of foreign friends and classmates.

Due to the small number of customers and the need to pay rent, water and electricity charges, the basic loss in the store is more than 5000 yuan per month. With the passage of time, there are more KTV, tea bars and cafes around, which makes the otherwise bad business even worse.

During this period, Xu Tao and other partners came up with the idea of combining cafes with bookstores to attract customers through environmental advantages. As a result, Xu Tao moved their usual collection of books to the store, and later cooperated with Green Tomato to build a coffee library to provide students with free book lending services.

At the same time, Xu Tao also improved the quality of coffee in the cafe. To this end, Xu Tao also went to Chongqing to study Mola coffee, the only coffee shop in Chongqing at that time. Through the re-upgrading, the business of the store has also improved a lot.

Open a branch after making a profit

To build coffee culture in Chongqing

After losing money for almost three months, business in the store is getting better, and some customers come late and often have no seats. There are too many troubles for customers. The original purpose of the store is to provide customers with a clean, comfortable and relaxed reading environment, but there will be noise after too many people, which will affect the quality of customers' reading. It is urgent to open a branch. On June 6, 2011, the second branch of Xu Tao and his partners, Douyan Cafe, opened on June 6, and in April 2012, the third branch, Dousai Corner Cafe, also officially opened. Today, the three stores have a combined monthly profit of about 15000 yuan, with an annual income of nearly 150000 yuan, but people are not in a hurry to pay dividends, but continue to invest money to improve the quality of cafes and want to become a campus brand cafe in Chongqing.

Of the four people who started the business, two continued to study as graduate students in Western political Science, and two went into cafes full-time after graduation. Xu Tao and his friends have only a simple idea, that is, they want to use the cafe as the carrier to really integrate coffee and books, and at the same time contribute to the local coffee culture in Chongqing.
