Coffee spread across the hemisphere. But its footprint in its birthplace is also quite delicate. Ethiopia is located in East Africa. Its territory is divided from the southwest to the north by the Great Rift Valley of Africa: the mountains in the west are believed to be the source of coffee; the ancient city of Hara in the east is the Islamic city of Yemen, an early coffee exporter; the southern highlands are world-famous producing areas; and the modern capital Addis Ababa in the center of the country and the ancient capital Lalibela in the north connect centuries of coffee ceremonies and traditions. A quarter of Ethiopia's population is directly or indirectly involved in coffee production. Although it is the largest coffee producer in Africa, 40% of it is reserved for domestic consumption. Coffee is a part of local life.
Raw beans gathered from the local processing plant Yokro Cooperative in Gera, Oromia State, southern Ethiopia, managed by Mr. Beshasha.
Coffee cherries from this area are collected in the traditional Ethiopian coffee cherry collection method, picked by individual farmers from small coffee plantations averaging 4 acres and sent to the processing plant. Coffee is grown at altitudes of 1,800 - 2,000 metres on fertile red brown loam soil. The raw beans produced by Yucu Cooperative are listed as the first choice in the Gera area because of their rich ripe fruit and chocolate flavor, bright acidity and rich sweetness.
TROPIQ ETHIOPIA is a subsidiary of Nordic Approach in Ethiopia, which aims to deepen the operation of producing areas and conduct more comprehensive quality control. TROPIQ ETHIOPIA has been continuously communicating and feedback with Youku Cooperatives since its establishment to ensure a stable source of high quality beans.
