Indonesia is the largest archipelago country in the world. Arabica coffee was introduced during the Dutch colonial period in the 18th century and began to be cultivated until modern times. It has become one of the top five coffee producers in the world in terms of production. Its main production areas are located on Sumatra, Java and Sulawesi. The northern part of Sumatra is located at a relatively high altitude. Aceh Province, where Lake Tawar is located, and North Sumatra, where Lake Toba is located, are the main Arabica coffee producing areas.

Tawa Lake is located in the Gayo Mountains in the north of Aceh Province, Sumatra; Indonesia, which straddles both sides of the equator, has a humid tropical rain forest climate with abundant rainfall, and fertile volcanic loam brings rich nutrients to coffee; however, due to its remote location and inconvenient transportation, coffee cultivation did not begin until 1924, and most of them were organic cultivation with traditional shade and no pesticides.

The local climate is humid. After preliminary washing and fermentation treatment, the moisture content of green beans is still 30%~50% after one or two days of exposure, that is, peeling seeds first and then drying, so as to shorten the drying time of green beans; about 2 days of drying time, the moisture content of green coffee beans can be reduced to 12~13%. Indonesia's unique semi-washing process is known locally as Giling Basah, also known as wet-hulled.

Sumatra Arabica Coffee, commonly known as Mantenin, is named after the ancient indigenous people in the area. Rumor has it that Japan occupied Sumatra in the 1940s. A soldier was amazed by the coffee he drank locally in North Sumatra and asked the locals what kind of coffee it was. However, due to the language barrier, the other party misunderstood to ask him who he was, and answered that he belonged to the Mandenin tribe. Later, when he spoke, he mistakenly became Mandenin, which became synonymous with Sumatra coffee.

The Mantenin beans produced by Lake Tava are green and clean, like finely carved gems.
