Near the small village of Shantawene, deep in the Sidamo region of Ethiopia, past a school, cabins and a ping-pong table on a triangular lawn, children chanted "you!" along the dusty road. You! you. "Shantawne Coffee Factory was found here. Because it is located at the foot of the Bombe Mountains, it is one of the highest coffee processing plants in the region. Coffee ripens slowly here because of its height.
Shantawene puts ripe coffee fruit on an elevated bed to dry, where there is a five-plate pulper, each batch of coffee is ground and polished. Interestingly, this special pulper tends to leave more on the cherries, which helps to produce a beautiful and unique smell and may make the coffee taste in the cup more lively.
The land of the Sama people of the SNNPR region is one of the greenest and most fertile lands on the African continent, so its people were stable and self-sufficient independent countries until they were annexed to Ethiopia in 1891. Another name is Sidamo vs Sidama:Sidama, who doesn't call himself Sidamo. They see it as a label that represents their independent conquest and suppression of their identity as a nation.
The communities around the Qonqona and Shantawene factories are very close. The factories are less than three kilometers away from each other. This creates unique opportunities for the interests of the region as a whole. For example, with the development of community economy, people have access to microfinance services. This opens the door for new processes and skills building. One such opportunity lies in the construction of eco-hotels. The cabin is being built in the center of the coffee farm. The idea is to extend ecotourism to coffee farms and provide a basis for progress and experimentation on coffee farms, which will be equipped with direct sales and export of coffee. Such projects will open the door to the larger coffee industry, providing jobs and creative outlets for nearly 1000 people.
