Vera Coocentral of Colombia
Coocentral (Cooperativa Central de Caficultores del Huila) is the main farmers' cooperative in the central region of Vera. It currently has 3747 farmers' members. Farmers' farms are mostly located between 1400 and 2000 meters above sea level, with an area of about 2-3 centimeters. The main varieties are Kaddura (Caturra), Castillo (Casteo), and Colombia (Colombia).
The coffee comes from the farm of a member farmer in Coocentral, which is 1800 meters above sea level and covers an area of only 2 hectares. It is grown in Kaddura and Colombia. Cooperatives set up purchase points at different points to purchase farmers' raw beans, including Gigante, Garzon, Guadalupe, Suaza Tarqui, Pital and Agrado. The harvest season is quite scattered, with the main harvest from May to July and another from October to December.
Since 2005, Coocentral has invested US $2.8 million in social resources, such as housing, college education, health insurance (paying half of patients' medical expenses), funerals, farm facilities, etc., without commission from farmers and paying higher prices for fresh fruit produced by farmers. Coocentral is currently working with raw bean merchants to improve the quality of coffee produced by farmers to improve their living standards.
The treatment in the middle of Vera is mostly washed with full water, and farmers carry out it in their own micro-processing plant, using manual or electric peeling machines, which are fermented by dry fermentation, usually in the afternoon, and then go directly into the fermentation tank and leave it for a day or two. The drying process after fermentation is generally taken in the sun to be protected by plastic greenhouse to prevent Rain Water. Vera has a humid climate and dryness is a big test. it must be taken good care of in order to produce high-quality raw beans. But farmers in Vera have invented ways to maintain a consistent quality of coffee, which is not easy.
