There are seven coffee producers in Costa rica, among which Tarazu, the central valley and the western valley are the three best-known and best-quality producing areas. West valley, the western valley, is one of the seven major producing areas of Costa rica, Valle Occidental. The harvest time in the western valley is from November to March of the next year, which is regarded as a long harvest area. The coffee flavor has fruit flavor and nutty almond flavor. Rich volcanic soil, sufficient sunshine, with an annual average relative humidity as high as 81%, abundant rainfall and an annual average temperature of 21.5 °C will not be too high, making the crops in this area flourish and conducive to the cultivation of high-quality coffee at high altitude.

Shangri-La Manor is located in the western valley of Costa Rica, about 35 kilometers from the capital San Jose. The western valley is one of the most important coffee producing areas in Costa Rica because the climatic conditions here are very suitable for coffee growth: rich volcanic soil, high altitude, moderate and evenly distributed rainfall, and cool temperatures.

The western valley region has a distinct dry and wet season, and when the coffee harvest season begins, it enters the dry season, which means that the area has sufficient sunshine for washing and sunbathing. This advantage is seldom found in other producing areas in the country (almost all other famous producing areas in Costa Rica are dried by machines). The average planting altitude is 1000 to 1600 meters, which is the coffee growing area in Costa Rica with the highest yield and the least leaf rust.

The Western Valley has created many COE award winning estates. Shangri-La Manor, run by Mr Carlos Batalla, a woodworking engineer, was founded in 2008 as a relatively young farm in the western valley, and their first harvest was in 2012. He had never been exposed to coffee cultivation before he bought the estate and was only committed to growing his own construction company. Carlos, who has been on track over the past few years, focusing on growing high-quality coffee, has become a professional and enthusiastic farmer.

Villa Sarchi, a bourbon mutant, was found in the town of Sarchi in the western valley of Costa rica. It is a natural mutant with branches at an angle of 45 degrees and a mixture of bronze and turquoise leaves. Villa Sarchi can be planted at both high and low altitudes, but the yield and quality are better at high elevations. Villa Sarchi has elegant acid value, fruit tonality, and good sweetness.
