In 1931, the species of Geisha was found in the Rosa Forest, located in Ethiopia and sent to Kenya's top coffee research institute; in 1936, Rosa coffee was introduced to Uganda and Tanzania; and in 1953, Costa Rica began to introduce the coffee. Finally, in the 1970s, Mr. Francesca Zelazin of the Dongba Seventh Farm in Panama received seeds from CATIE in Costa Rica and began growing Rosa Summer Coffee, which was hard to come by because of its extremely low production and bidding. It was exported obscure from Mount Rosa in southwestern Ethiopia to Kenya, Tanzania and Costa Rica in 931, and it was only transplanted to Panama in the 1960s, and it took nearly half a century before it suddenly became a blockbuster. Beat the victorious varieties in coffee, such as Bourbon, Kaddura, Kaduai and Tibica, and won the first prize of the Panama National Bean Cup Test Competition in 2005, 2006 and 2007. In 2007, the International famous Bean Cup Test sponsored by the American Fine Coffee Association (SCAA) won the championship again, and the bidding price was sold at US $130 per pound, setting a record for the highest price in the history of competition beans. It is reported that the later Panamanian national treasure bean competition will be divided into two groups: Rose Summer and non-Rose Summer, so as not to be robbed of the brilliance of other varieties by Rose Summer. Rosa is a member of the Tibika family, but after 40 years of planting and harvest, Panamanian Rosa Coffee has finally come to the fore in the world, and its high quality and unique taste have been recognized by international coffee experts. "my father was very excited about this, and he was also known as the father of Panamanian rosy summer coffee."
Serasin said.
After winning the recognition of professional appraisers, Panamanian Rosa Coffee has won the popularity of the international market, especially the Asian market. With the passage of time, the price of Rosa coffee has gone up all the way, becoming the darling of the high-end coffee market.
At the annual online auction of Rosa coffee held by the Panamanian Special Coffee Association, the price of the coffee reached a record high year after year, setting a new record of $803 per pound in 2018 after hitting a record of $603 per pound in 2017.
Selassin told reporters that the rosy summer of his coffee garden first entered the Asian market when it was exported to Japan in 2005. Since then, demand for this kind of coffee has remained strong in the Asian market.
Serraxin, former president of the Panamanian Coffee Growers Association, said that although Rosa is popular in the market, due to the small number of areas suitable for Rosa growth, its planting area is only more than 1000 hectares, and the annual output is no more than 1 to 12000 bags (about 46 kg per bag). The industry expects to appropriately increase the planting area of this variety in the next two years, and so far more than 70 plantations have expressed their willingness to participate in the planting program.
Data show that there are more than 3700 coffee growers in Panama, with a total output of about 200000 bags. In addition to Rosa coffee, other varieties of coffee produced in Bockett are also widely loved by consumers. It is believed that with the continuous promotion of cooperation and exchanges between China and Pakistan in various fields, Panamanian coffee will enter more and more Chinese families. After opening Ethiopia for more than 70 years, it has become famous, which has fulfilled the saying that Ethiopia is a treasure trove of Arabica genes. giving a variety abroad is enough to stir up trouble in the coffee market.
