Coffee from several big islands in Indonesia is very famous, including Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, Bali and so on.

─ manning, a famous coffee bean in Sumatra, is the most familiar to everyone. From our experience of testing beans, Mantenin, which belongs to Lintong and Aceh provinces, is the best. In addition to climate and geographical location, the special post-processing method ─ wet planing (Wet-Hulling) is also one of the important factors why Mantenin can have different flavor. The wet planing method simply means that when the raw beans are half-dried and the moisture content is still as high as 30% Murray 50%, the seed shells are removed, and then continue to be dried, so as to solve the dilemma of excessive drying time, which can be completed in only four days.

Wahana Manor in Sumatra in the sun

Introduction:

In 2005, Opal Coffee founded Wahana Manor in the village of Lae Mungkur, about 1300 to 1500 meters above sea level in Sidikalang, Dairi province, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The advantage of the native manor lies in the establishment of a clearly traceable coffee supply chain, the production of fine coffee with different styles and zero defects through different treatments or varieties, and the practice of organic and rainforest conservation in the manor.

Wahana Manor, with a total area of 500ha, has about 250ha for coffee cultivation, 30 ha for coffee nurseries and 10 ha of land for coffee processing facilities, employing nearly 2000 workers. Operators are very concerned about corporate social responsibility. apart from opening clinics to provide medical care, operators establish a good relationship with local small farmers' groups by setting up agricultural assistance centres (Farmers Support Center) to provide information on the management of coffee farmers and donating shade plants, organic fertilizers and coffee seeds.

The Wahana estate is planted in a variety of varieties, including Long Berry from Aceh, Sulawesi transplant, Andong Sari and S795 from Jember in eastern Java, Rasuna native to Sumatra, and further, Columbia Typica from Colombia, Villa Sachi, Cattura and Cattuai from Costa Rica.

The way it is treated in the sun, the sweet flavor of the fruit is amazing.

The Caturra variety was first discovered in Brazil and is said to be a natural variety of bourbon. But it does not grow as well in Brazil as it does in Costa Rica, so it is widely known as a variety planted in Costa Rica. Caturra is a very unique variety, which needs a lot of care and nutrients. It has only been planted in Wahana Manor since 2008, and people are looking forward to how Caturra coffee can adapt to the growing environment and climate of Indonesia, as well as the flavor it has developed.

Rasuna, a hybrid of Catimor and Typica, originated from a new variety in Takengon, Sumatra, with a planting area of about 90 hectares. The advantage of Catimor is its disease resistance, but the life span of coffee trees is short, only about ten years. On the other hand, Typica has a low yield but a long life. The main purpose of mixing the two varieties is to maintain a stable yield and to maintain a longer production cycle of coffee trees. Rasuna is one of the most popular cultivated varieties in Sumatra, and the Rasuna variety grown in Wahana Manor stimulates its potential in the most favorable environment for its growth. At present, Rasuna is mostly grown in Indonesia, most of which grow at 1200 meters above sea level, while Wahana Manor is planted at 1300 to 1500 meters above sea level and planted under shade trees to protect the plants from direct sunlight and allow coffee trees to grow naturally.
