According to Qianjie Coffee, Sidama is one of the most famous producing areas in Ethiopia, located in southern Ethiopia, on a par with Yegashifi, but the town of Yegashafi is actually located in Sidamo province. Sidamo coffee is of excellent quality, especially in the sun. The sun-dried beans have returned to their former glory in recent years, and the word Sidamo is almost a guarantee of quality.
There are more than 100000 coffee farmers in the Sidamo area, and each farmer's farmland is very small, usually only 1 hectare or 2 hectares. the coffee grown is traditional local beans that are difficult to classify, and many people simply call it the Ethiopian native species, or even the Sidamo native species (Sidama Heirloom). Since 2012, the Gemma Institute has promoted 74122 of the newly developed varieties to be planted by small farmers with higher yields.
The vast majority of small farmers belong to farmers' cooperatives. There are 47 cooperatives in Sidamo. In 2001, these cooperatives combined to form the pan-Sidamo organization, the Sidamo Coffee Farmers' Cooperative (Sidama Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union;SCFCU).
