Qianjie-introduction of three major coffee bean varieties
Arabica
Originally from Ethiopia, the scientific name is Coffea?arabica?Linnaeus. Arabica beans are also called small seeds because of their small fruits and kernels. It is a self-pollinated crop, relatively cold-tolerant and drought-tolerant, accounting for about 76% of the world's productive cultivation. Most of them are distributed in high altitude (1300-1900m). Arabica beans smell mellow, taste rich and delicate, although strong but not bitter, although fragrant but not strong, slightly sour, good quality, is the best variety of coffee, has been very popular in the international market.
Robusta
Also known as medium-grain coffee, it is native to the rainforests of Congo and Uganda. Luobusta bean is a cross-pollinated crop with strong variability of its progeny. Superior varieties are generally propagated by cutting or grafting. Its fruit is round and flat, and is not tolerant to strong light or wind chill. It is mostly distributed in low altitude (≤ 900m), accounting for about 23% of the productive cultivation in the world. Although Robusta has a strong flavor of coffee, it is so irritating and of medium quality that many coffee lovers cannot accept its strong flavor.
Then if Arabica beans are so delicious, why do you still need Robusta? First of all, Arabica beans are susceptible to coffee leaf rust and vulnerable to longicorn beetles, while robusta beans are resistant to coffee leaf rust, less vulnerable to longicorn beetles and easier to cultivate. If Arabica is compared to the "delicate and sickly Lin Daiyu", then Robusta must be the "soldier brother" in the coffee beans. Second, Robusta contains much more caffeine and oil than Arabica and is a very important part of blending beans and espresso.
Librika.
The country of origin is Liberia (Liberia) in West Africa. It belongs to the Liberika tree species, also known as "large-grained species", which is now widely planted in various tropical regions. Generally grow in the slope about 200 meters above sea level, can withstand high and low temperature, wet or dry environment, strong fecundity, compared with Robusta, it is more like the "rough" master. The Liberica coffee tree is only about 10-20 feet high (about 3.3-6.6 meters). Its leaves are larger than other coffee species, and its requirements for the altitude and temperature of the growing environment are relatively low, so it is also suitable to be used as a landscape plant.
Although the fruit of Librika is very large, its thick peel is not easy to remove, and it takes a complicated process to get coffee beans, which limits its economic development.
Most importantly, it tastes bad. Librika has a bitter taste, low aroma and mellow, difficult to obtain, and expensive, so it has little commercial value. However, as an expensive and untasty coffee bean, its research value is far greater than its commercial value.
Knowledge: high-altitude planting areas are all 4000 to 6000 feet above sea level. The planting temperature needs a temperature climate between 15 degrees and 25 degrees, and the annual rainfall must reach 1500 mm to 2000 mm. At the same time, the rainfall time should be in line with the flowering cycle of coffee trees.
