Front Street-Kenya Neri Region Introduction
Kenya is located in eastern Africa, the equator runs through its central region, and the Great Rift Valley runs from north to south. It borders Somalia to the east, Tanzania to the south, Uganda to the west, Ethiopia and South Sudan to the north, and the Indian Ocean to the southeast. Kenya's coffee-producing areas are mainly concentrated in the highlands represented by Mount Kenya. Tropical climate, acidic red volcanic soil for coffee provides a natural suitable growth environment.
Nyeri
Neri has always been a classic coffee producing area in Kenya. Relying on Mount Kenya, Neri has a superior environment suitable for coffee growth and is located in the middle of Kenya. Kenyan Neri is usually AA grade, rich in taste, high in alcohol, with high recognition of blackcurrant, plum taste, clear acidity, long finish.
Nyeri, located in central Kenya, is home to the extinct volcano Mount Kenya. The red earth of this region breeds Kenya's best coffee. Coffee is the main crop in this area. Cooperatives consisting of small farmers are more common than large estates. There are two harvests in this area, but coffee from the growing season is usually of higher quality. This region is known for its thick acidity like blackberries and fruity aromas.
No country in the world places as much emphasis on producing high-quality coffee as Kenya. Neri's green beans are mainly washed, graded according to particle size, and determined by cup test. The highest grade coffee beans are AA (large beans retained on a 7.2 mm screen), A (next largest beans retained on a 6.8 mm screen), B (medium beans retained on a 6.2 mm screen), C (all small beans smaller than B), PB (oval beans), and TT and T beans that are too light and too small.
Class A and B beans are mixed together for export and are called Class AB. The Kenyan authorities (CBK) have very high requirements for coffee beans, consistent packaging, good quality and excellent texture, so coffee lovers will never forget to enjoy a cup of Kenyan coffee.
Kenya coffee cultivation history dates back to the end of the 19th century, coffee tree species introduced from the northern neighbor Ethiopia, after their own varieties improved, currently common varieties are Bourbon (Bourbon), Kents (SL34, SL28), Typica (Typica) and Luri 11 (Riuri 11) four varieties. About 90% of coffee varieties grown today are SL34, SL28.
