In 1885, Cecil Augustus Munn planted his first coffee trees in Strawberry Hill and began his family's history of world-class coffee. Disaster struck shortly thereafter when Cecil's crops were destroyed by wildfire. This is particularly difficult because coffee plants do not produce their first crop for 3 to 5 years after planting. Despite the difficulties, Cecil kept going and, with the support of friends and family, replanted his crops. Only a few years later, the world was introduced to Cecil's coffee.

In 1920, Victor, Cecil's son, built the Mavis Bank Central Factory. Victor's nephew Keble Munn further inherited his family business. He became the first certified cup tester in Jamaica and the first to export Blue Mountain coffee to Japan. He was also Minister of Agriculture.

In the early 1950s, a number of local coffee farmers and producers helped develop licenses to regulate coffee plantations and production facilities. Keble Munn was among those who played an important role in forming the Jamaica Coffee Industry Council. Several farmers started sending their coffee to Munn Processing Plant at Mavis Bank. There are four original processors of Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee: Wallenford, Moy Hill, Silver Hill and Mavis Bank Coffee Factory. Only Wallenford and Mavis banks remain open.

To protect Jamaica's reputation for Blue Mountain coffee, the country has strict rules governing coffee production and exports. The Jamaica Coffee Industry Board defines strict geographical boundaries outside which JBMC cannot grow and inspects all coffee before export. Edgar Munn is certified by the Jamaica Coffee Industry Council to import and sell Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee in the United States.

The Munn family is particularly close to the founders of Flamstead Estate. Their friendship goes back generations and now Edgar buys their coffee directly and continues to develop their close family relationship. At 4,000 feet in the Blue Mountains, another microfarm was discovered, owned by Arthur McGowen.

Edgar has known Arthur for many years and played an important role in the construction of Arthur's factory. Arthur has over 15 years of experience growing and manufacturing Blue Mountain coffee. His character is marked by determination, originality, and integrity in his trade. Edgar visits Arthur at his estate every year and meets him at an annual coffee event in the United States.

Local farmers are grateful for the commitment of the Munn family, which continues to be respected by local farmers. Keble Munn received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Fine Coffee Association in 1995. Because of his age, Keble was unable to accept the award in person, so he entrusted Edgar to accept it at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami, Florida. Even after his death in the spring of 2008, Keble Munn remained beloved and respected throughout Jamaica.
