By 1981, about 1500 hectares of land in Jamaica had been cleared for coffee, followed by another 6000 hectares. In 1992, Jamaica sold 688 tons of Blue Mountain coffee to Japan, 75 tons to the United States and 59 tons to Britain. 90% of Blue Mountain coffee is now purchased by Japanese. Blue Mountain coffee is now in short supply, regardless of price, since the rest of the world can only get 10 percent of Blue Mountain coffee.
Blue Mountain Coffee Varieties
Blue Mountain Coffee is a coffee with an ancient bloodline varieties-iron pickup. Among the current coffee varieties, there are very few ancient varieties. However, even Blue Mountain Coffee with the blood of Tiepika was not all true Blue Mountain Coffee. Only those grown at certain high altitudes could be called true Blue Mountain Coffee and qualified to be crowned King.
