People who drink a small amount of coffee have an increased risk of stroke if they are suddenly addicted to coffee and drink too much at a time, according to a study published in the American Journal of Neuromedicine. People who drink less than one cup of coffee a day are twice as likely to have a blood clot if they suddenly drink one or two cups of coffee a day, the study found. Especially one hour after drinking coffee, the risk of fatal stroke is the highest.
Harvard Medical School in the United States studied 400 stroke patients, comparing their coffee intake an hour before the stroke and the amount of coffee they drank in the past year. The results showed that about 1 in 10 patients had a stroke within an hour after drinking coffee. And this phenomenon occurs only in coffee, while other caffeinated drinks such as tea and cola are not associated with stroke.
