Climate

The climatic conditions in Costa Rica are very different, completely subverting the classification of the four seasons of the year, there are only two seasons, the rainy season from April to December, and the dry season from the end of December to April of the following year, also known as summer. The annual average temperature in San Jose, the capital, ranges from 15 ℃ to 26 ℃, while the temperature in the coastal areas is relatively high, with a night average temperature of 21 ℃ and a daily average temperature of 30 ℃ in the Caribbean. Costa Rica accounts for only 0.03% of the world's land area, but with nearly 4% of the world's species, Costa Rica is one of the countries with the richest biological species in the world. 26% of the land area is a national park or nature reserve, including 11 wetlands, 2 biological reserves and 3 World Natural Heritage sites. The national forest coverage rate is 52%.

Natural resources include iron, manganese, mercury, bauxite, gold and silver, among which the reserves of bauxite, iron and coal reach 150 million tons, 400 million tons and 50 million tons respectively. The recent situation is mainly distributed in the central gold belt area of the northwestern Tilaran Cordillera Mountains. Calcium carbonate is distributed in the northwest and has high taste. The purity of calcium carbonate extracted from limestone can reach 99.5%. Costa Rica attaches great importance to environmental protection and the exploitation of natural resources is strictly restricted.

Oil is completely dependent on imports, mainly from Colombia and other countries, and is monopolized by the National Oil Company (RECOPE), with an average annual import of 3 million tons of crude oil. Since 2012, the national oil company has suspended crude oil refining production due to aging facilities, and all fuel oil has been imported instead. In 2013, Costa Rica imported 19.3 million barrels of oil, with imports of US $2.3 billion, accounting for 5.5 per cent of GDP. In Costa Rica, there are many small but boutique coffee estates like Elsa. Their idea is to constantly improve the quality of raw coffee beans, out of their own "boutique coffee" road, in order to obtain the best economic benefits.

Coffee is an important export product of Costa Rica, which earns a lot of foreign exchange for the country every year and is vividly called the "golden seed". Costa Rica's unique natural conditions are very suitable for growing high-quality coffee varieties. Although the output is small, Costa Rican coffee always occupies an important position in the international boutique coffee market with its excellent quality.

The Colombian government attaches great importance to the development of the coffee industry. in addition to promulgating laws prohibiting the cultivation of coffee varieties with poor flavor, the Colombian government has also specially set up the National Coffee Administration to promote high-quality coffee varieties and help coffee farmers to improve their coffee planting and management technology. provide technical support for coffee bean quality identification. At the same time, some coffee gardens have opened up a unique "coffee culture tour" to promote the coffee industry through tourism.

In recent years, in order to better meet the needs of the international coffee market, some coffee growers focus on the current pursuit of green life and vigorously grow organic coffee. Although the manpower and capital investment is large, but once certified by the international organic coffee certification body, it can be sold at a higher price. In addition to organic certification, there are some world-renowned professional coffee certifications, such as Rainforest Coffee Certification, Shade Coffee Certification, International Fair Trade Certification and so on. These provide a channel for Costa Rican boutique coffee to expand the international coffee market. Elsa Coffee Manor is located in the western valley coffee producing area of Costa Rica. In May and June, the workers in the estate are no longer as busy as the coffee harvest. Their work is mainly focused on the shelling and screening treatment of raw beans before export. In recent years, the manor began to take the development route of "boutique coffee". Coffee raw beans have won prizes in COE boutique coffee competitions many times, and their coffee has enjoyed high popularity in the world.

Ricardo, owner of Elsa Manor, said that the estate has a 16-hectare coffee plantation and is equipped with raw coffee bean processing equipment, which can process coffee fruits from its own coffee farm and coffee growers in the surrounding area. Because it is located at 1700 meters above sea level, the quality and flavor of coffee beans are generally better than those grown in low altitude areas, and the manor only collects the fruits with the best maturity during the coffee harvest period and processes them carefully, so the vast majority of raw coffee beans can be rated as high-quality.
