If you have read the fairy tale Gulliver's travels, you will remember the sailing adventures of the protagonist Dr. Gulliver, especially the adventures of drifting to the land of Lilliputian and Big Man. Today, there is such a very special cafe in Aoshando, Tokyo, where the plots of "Lilliputian" and "Big Man" are staged at the same time.

This cafe, called Tokyo Baby Cafe, is a good place for parents to take their children for a drink. The original design idea of Nendo Architect, a design company, was to create a place where adults and children could have fun at the same time. Adults did not have to worry about their children's safety, while children could enjoy themselves.

Unlike the hustle and bustle of tables and chairs in ordinary cafes, the space of "Tokyo Baby Cafe" is very spacious. In addition to the public area for drinking coffee, it also includes a game room, several private lounges and even rooms dedicated to breast-feeding or diaper changing. In order to create a warm indoor atmosphere, designers use gray wooden floors with white walls, while furniture uses a color scheme of light blue and light gray. The reasonably distributed lighting system makes the indoor light even and soft, giving people a leisurely and relaxed feeling.

It is worth mentioning that Nendo has set up furniture of different sizes from the perspective of both adults and children, creating an interesting contrast that makes people feel like they have entered a fairy tale kingdom of "disproportion". For example, the walls of public areas are equipped with "mini" windows and door frames, the bathroom has toilets and sinks specially designed for children, and the picture of children's furniture coexisting with "normal" tables and chairs is even more interesting.

Nendo designers say that creating a space where adults and children can fit each other is not as easy as making everything into two sizes. Adults and children have completely different perspectives, so the different feelings of these two groups must be taken into account in the design. Take a simple coffee table as an example. Adults see the table and what is placed on it, while children see the world under the table. In their eyes, the table may be as high as the roof and the legs as stout as pillars. Therefore, the designer specially painted a pattern on the bottom of the table to make the "ceiling" in the eyes of children full of color, and in order to make parents feel the "Great Man" in the eyes of their children, the designer also set up a giant sofa in the middle of the public area, which is too large even for adults. It is actually an inflatable play area in which children can jump. It's like being in an amusement park.

In addition, taking into account the special needs of children, there are many thoughtful designs in the store: for example, the passageway is spacious enough to facilitate the implementation of strollers; there are more than 600 books and a sufficient stock of toys for children to entertain themselves; all angular furniture are protected to eliminate all safety risks; the height of light switches and door handles are out of reach of children to prevent them from "disrupting".
