Under the influence of the industrial revolution in Europe in the 18th century, traditional agriculture in Guatemala changed with the development of new technology. Farmers in Antigua switched to other crops in order to make a living. The Matheu Sinibaldi family family in the suburbs began to plant 25000 trees on three estates around Antigua in 1864 until now.
Ferra Manor is currently the most important estate in the Matthew family, producing and baking its own coffee brand, and was honored as the runner-up in the first Cup Test Competition in Guatemala in 2001. as a result, the family's tradition and dedication to growing coffee for more than a hundred years has been appreciated.
The manor has pure spring water for washing and has a professional tanning factory. Beans have a great aroma, balanced acidity, full mellowness, and high sweetness in the mouth after drinking.
Ferra Manor covers an area of more than 1000 acres, but only 200acres grow coffee, while 900acres are used for ecological tourism. Ferra is quite high above sea level for the manor in Antigua, but the proportion of coffee planted in the manor woodland is very low, and the ambition to protect the natural ecology is very strong.
The geographical characteristics of Andi melon producing area:
There are three major volcanoes Acatenango/Fuego/Agua Volcanoes in Antigua District. At the same time, the elevation of this area is very high. All coffee is planted above 1300 meters (belonging to the high elevation series of SHB). Among them, Fuego is an active volcano. The features of the Antigua volcanic area are as follows:
(1) fertile volcanic soil: in addition to the fertile soil brought by active volcanoes, there is also a unique volcanic pumice (cooling after volcanic magma ejection), which has the characteristics of porosity and thermal insulation and has the function of moisturizing in the soil. because Antigua area has the least rainfall among the seven major coffee producing areas in the country, the moisturizing capacity of volcanic pumice here can just make up for the lack of rainfall. At the same time, the growing coffee fruit has a unique flavor of the producing area.
(2) High-density shading trees: in addition to shading, it can also prevent frost damage and form a unique microclimate. Andigua area will occasionally suffer frost damage from December to February because of cold nights, and high-density shading trees can play an effect to avoid frosting of coffee trees. at the same time, the groundwater level in Andigua area is not deep, these shade trees are easy to absorb water and form a microclimate suitable for plant growth with the surrounding coffee trees.
(3) the sharp temperature difference between day and night is of great help to the sweetness and unique flavor of coffee fruit.
(4) High altitude: the beans of coffee trees growing at high altitude are hard, the aroma of coffee is higher, and the flavor is more prominent.
