Hartman Manor in Panama
Grow coffee in harmony with the environment
Finca Hartmann is a third-generation family business, located in Santa Clara of Renacimiento. It consists of two farms, Santa Clara Hartman Manor and O'Hood Agua, located between 1.300 and 2.000 meters above sea level, with nearly 100 forest reserves adjacent to Parque Nacional de La Amistad. Coffee is grown in the shade of the local rainforest, which has been around for many years. Hartman tried to not to cut down trees, and they replanted local trees and plantains in order to maintain natural circulation and healthy soil and animals.
Alois Strasil Hartmann, born in Moravia in 1891, was born in the Austro-Hungarian Empire (you may know our kinship with this country), laying the foundation for the Hartman Manor (Finca Hartmann) founded by his son Ratibor Hartmann in 1940. Aloys came to Panama in 1912 in search of adventure, which led him to follow the Telegraph line all the way to the volcano instead of staying in Panama City. He was the first resident to settle the volcano, married Susana Troetsch, the daughter of German immigrants, and took care of 2000 cattle and 1000 donkeys for Mr. Landberg. He started a coffee farm and later moved to Santa Clara, where he had another coffee farm, but his real interest was in archaeology. He died on May 25th at the age of 77 and is still recognized for his knowledge of the region and Panamanian archaeology.
For coffee farms, he bought 500 Kazakh people from the Panamanian government and handed over a hundred plots of land in the primeval forest to one of his sons, Ratibor Hartmann, who is working with American troops in Panama City to turn the land into a Finca Hartmann coffee farm. In 1966, Ratibor married DinorahSand í of Costa Rica. They raised five children together, Ratibor Jr,Allan,Alexander,Aliss and Kelly.
Today, Hartman Manor is a family business, and every family member is enthusiastically involved in management, playing different roles in farm development, production and tourism. Giving them coffee is a way of life, their culture, their family-a lot of work, but also a lot of love. Their employees come back every year like buyers because they like their vision of working with nature to cultivate the land without destruction.
"from the very beginning, my parents began to work on this farm and they worked on this land with a lot of love and respect. We follow in their footsteps, we love this farm, we like what we do, and although we may encounter difficulties in the market, we intend to pass on this passion to our children. "Aliss Hartmann
"my father always associates coffee production with environmental protection." Ratibor Hartmann
