Coffee has helped Guatemala's economy for the past 100 years. It is estimated that there are about 125,000 coffee producers in Guatemala at present. Since the early 1990s, Anacafé has been the first to classify eight different producing areas for Alpine Hard Beans (SHB) according to coffee characteristics, growing climate, soil quality and altitude: Akatango Valley (the Acatenango valley), Antigua, Atitlán, Cobán, Farahannes Plain (The Fraijanes plateau), Vivitenango (Huehuetenango), New Oriental (Nuevo Oriente), San Marcos volcanic area (San Marcos), December every year to March of the following year is the main harvest season, higher altitude production areas such as Vivitenango can be to April, as long as the harvest is completed, processed will be shipped.
Asociación Barillense de Agricultores ( ASOBAGRI ) Located in a mountainous city 200 km north of Vivitenango, a coffee city in northwest Guatemala, surrounded by green forest reserves, the Yasapakari Cooperative has 711 coffee-based farmers, 352 independent farmers certified organically, most of whose members communicate in traditional Mayan languages. The mission of the Yasapakari Cooperative is to strengthen the green production of small farmers in the region. And keeping traditional organic and shade production, the proceeds will invest in dry squares and storage warehouses that support their own health care and education programs.
