This is organically certified Excelso EP coffee from the ASCI'SP Cooperative in Getania, Tolima, Colombia.
ASCI'SP stands for CaficultoresOrganicosde San PedroAsociacionIndigenadeCaficultoresOrganicosde San Pedro. ASCISP was founded in 2014 and now has 80 members and a collective cultivated land of 207ha. ASCI'SP exists to give way to the local Nasa Wesx group in San Pedro vereda, south of Gaitania, Tolima. ASCI'SP people have great respect for the land they live in and grow everything organically, keeping the original plants as much as possible. The association has helped coffee growers improve their agricultural practices and maintain organic and fair trade certifications that members themselves cannot obtain. In addition to physical quality and certification, the local quality analysis feature helps members get a premium on cup quality, which is not available to most growers. The altitude of this area is between 1600 and 2000, and the varieties harvested include Caturra,Typica, as well as a small amount of Castillo and Tabi. Coffee is dried and fermented on a closed mesh bed (marquesina) and an open-air elevated terrace (Elba) before drying.
Getania is known as the birthplace of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), which has existed in the region for the past 60 years. Although Colombia recently signed a peace agreement with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, ASCI'SP has a history of more than 20 years, and opposition groups have been able to reach an understanding since rebel groups faced indigenous resistance when they tried to occupy the reserve in the 1990s. Thanks in part to good leadership, vision and ASCI'SP 's collective spirit of "our people", Asci'sp has become a model in just a few years.
