# A life-changing year

In 2014, I gave up my stable job in Taiwan and went to Australia to work a holiday with my girlfriend. I first picked oranges on the farm and worked the night shift in a salad factory, then found a stable beverage shop in Brisbane. I worked 60 hours a week at an hourly wage of only A $8 (the local minimum wage was A $16). There was nothing wrong with backpackers, didn't they? It's fun to have a job and have money to eat and play around. But after I got married and moved to Melbourne, I found that my work income could not have a good quality of life, and the more I did it, the more I became sad. At this time, I met a friend who opened a coffee shop because of fate. He gave me a chance to learn coffee. I started with a kitchen helper. I could only touch the coffee machine in my spare time. I was already interested in pulling flowers. I asked everywhere for advice and worked hard to practice whenever I had the opportunity. To tell you the truth, it seems simple to successfully make a good cup of coffee, but it never comes to the meeting, and it often takes a lot of work.

Later, there was a shortage of baristas in my friend's shop, and I went into the card seat, which was the beginning of my acquaintance with Melbourne boutique coffee. The first three months are very painful, because English is very poor, three years of high school English adds up to less than 50 points, that is me. At first, it was hard for me to memorize the price of the products in the store, to learn to greet and answer questions, and even to chat with my Australian colleagues. But this is one of the necessary skills to become a barista. I forced myself to break through and survived the painful three months, which made me more confident to face the job.

As a backpacker, it's not easy to find a job you like in a foreign land, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. The important thing is, when God gives you a chance, are you ready? How much are you willing to pay to stick to your own path?

# find the coffee life of your dreams

After becoming a barista, I began to teach the coffee skills I learned to my friends around me. At first I really didn't know if it would help them, but later I found that because of my guidance, they broke through the blind spot and even found a good job in a coffee shop. It turns out that I can be more than just a barista, my enthusiasm can bring help to others and realize other people's dreams.

"if I give you fish, I might as well teach you how to fish." this is our original intention to start coffee teaching. I began to teach coffee silently, not because I am very good, but because I am eager to help more people like me who have dreams about coffee to realize their dreams smoothly. Through their own efforts, have a skill, but also build their own self-esteem, especially in Melbourne, coffee culture prevails and mature city, will eventually find a small piece of their own sky.

Backpackers are the beginning of a wonderful journey, but we have to calm down and ask ourselves how to make this time more productive. I believe that every opportunity in life is to achieve a better self.

Barista, now become my major, but also become my lifelong career, this is something I could not have imagined before. And along the way, I believe that dreams are never alone.
