West Arsi is located between the famous Yirgacheffe coffee growing area and Hararge, but its coffee has not been recognized in history. However, the high altitude of the area bordering the famous Harrenna Forest began to attract people's attention. West Arsi's Rafisa washing plant was built in 2012, but under the new leadership of the past year, the region's coffee potential began to be realized. The coffee here has notes of honeysuckle, pink grapefruit and sugar cane.
Rafisa washing treatment plant was established in 2012. When the country implemented a new coffee marketing policy in 2017, allowing the direct export of coffee from private washing plants such as Rafisa, the washing plants received new leadership.
Most coffee-producing villages near the Rafisa washing plant are very high, producing between 1850 and 2020 masl of coffee.
Coffee in these villages can be divided into two main production systems: semi-forest and garden coffee. The semi-forest coffee production system is characterized by land and land covered by common shade trees, and coffee grows under the canopy. The village near the Rafisa washing treatment plant shares the boundary with the famous Harenna Forest-wild coffee cultivation-using a semi-forest production system. Outside the forest boundaries, growers produce garden coffee, which they harvest from small plots of land, usually close to their homes.
