Located in one of Guatemala's earliest production areas, Casa Viscaya has been known for its high quality coffee for two hundred years. The coffee at Villa Vescaya grows along ridges between 1, 300m and 1, 800m above sea level. The temperature is 21 to 27 degrees Celsius. It is affected by Pacific sea breezes and humidity. The relative humidity is 70 to 80%. The rainfall is 4000 to 5000 mm, the highest of the eight producing areas in Guatemala. Its soil is enriched by ash from a nearby active volcano, Santiaguito. Due to climatic conditions and unpredictable rainfall, most estates have their own washing plants, where coffee is semi-dried in the yard and then dried in a cold way.
