Burundian Comero Cooperative Butenberg treatment Plant washing

Burundi Sogestal Kirimiro Butemba Washed

White peach, honey, lemon grass, blackcurrant, red apple, vanilla, citric acid, bright, clear, sweet finish

Burundi, located in the interior of East Africa, grows coffee on mountains ranging from 1750 to 2000 meters above sea level and is mostly cut by small farmers. Most farmers own only a few dozen coffee trees. After harvest, they put bags full of coffee fruit on their heads or on bicycles and send them to the nearest raw bean processing plant. The high altitude, hills, volcanic soil and heavy rainfall in Burundi are all elements for the production of good coffee, forming the characteristics of outstanding aroma and complex flavor, which belongs to coffee with high aroma, sweetness and elegant acid in flavor.

This batch comes from the Butenberg treatment Plant (Butemba) of the Comero Cooperative (Sogestal Kirimiro), which is located in a unique location of 1938 meters above sea level and is also the highest treatment plant in Burundi. Due to the altitude, very clean water can be obtained, which contributes to the traditional dual fermentation treatment in Burundi. Under the excellent operation of the cooperative and paying attention to the ecological environment, we can get good coffee quality. And won the 16th place in the 2017 COE competition!

Bourbon, a variety of Arabica coffee, is one of the varieties closest to the original species, which was found in Reunion (formerly Bourbon) near Madagascar. Bourbon species has its own characteristics, and Typica (Tibica) has the same high-quality taste, like red wine sour taste, sweet finish. Tibica and bourbon can be distinguished by the leaves and bean appearance of coffee trees. Bourbon leaves are wider, strong coffee cherries are smaller and denser, so beans are smaller and more round compared to Tibica.

[washing method] Washed / Wet Processed

After removing the peel and pulp, soak in water in the fermentation tank to ferment, remove the residual pectin mucosa on the inner pericarp, and then rinse with water, which is rich in acidity, one of the conditions of fine coffee.
