Kenyan coffee, known for its rich and multi-layered taste, was named the "Top 30 Best Coffee in the World in 2017" in the Coffee Review (Coffee Review), with coffee produced by three professional coffee factories in Kenya on the list.
Kenyan coffee has a multi-layered taste and juice acidity, perfect grapefruit and wine flavor, moderate mellow, is the favorite of many people in the coffee industry. Kenyan Coffee became more famous with the sensation of the Hollywood movie OutofAfrica. Karen, the heroine played by Meryl Streep (MarylStreep), is a writer and coffee plantation owner. Many people may still remember the beautiful scenery and the magnificent sunset in the film, but what is even more unforgettable is Karen's dream of having a coffee plantation in Africa.
Kenyan coffee is characterized by distinctive fruit aromas and acidity, with a BlackBerry and grapefruit flavor and a hint of wine in the full-bodied palate. The bright fruit aroma and acidity of Kenyan coffee in shallow roasting are rated as like fruit tea, which shows its unique flavor. Among them, the well-known Kenyan AA is full of particles, rich in taste, and well received by the world.
Kenyan coffee is mostly planted on the slopes near Mount Kenya, about 1500 ~ 2100 meters above sea level. This height is suitable for the development of coffee bean flavor. Due to the lower temperature and slow growth in the mountain area, the aromatic components of coffee beans have been fully developed, and the sour taste is more obvious. Texture is also harder. Kenyan coffee is all Arabica species, which is mainly washed. There are four common varieties: Bourbon, Typica, Kents and Riuri 11. Kenyan coffee trees can bloom twice a year. Most coffee trees bloom in March and April after the long rainy season, and the harvest season lasts from October to the end of the year. Some coffee trees blossom in October or November and are harvested in July of the following year. Kenyan coffee has always been picked by hand, and farmers harvest only red ripe coffee fruit, and each tree is picked again about every ten days or so.
Capiya AA (Kabare AA), produced by farmers' cooperatives in Kirinyaga, ranks fourth out of 30 top coffees, with a score of 97.
AA is the highest grade of Kenyan coffee and is one of the rare good coffees. This grade of coffee has rich aroma, balanced acidity, perfect size and appearance of coffee beans.
Riakiberu AB ranked 20th with 95 points. The coffee is produced by farmers' cooperatives in Kamacharia in the Mulang region.
Coffee from Yemen topped the 2017 list with a score of 97 points. In 2016, coffee produced by the Guama coffee factory, the Baragwi cooperative in Murang'a, a Kenyan product, topped the list. Panamanian coffee (both from rose summer trees) prevailed in 2014 and 2015. In 2013, coffee at the top of the list came from Ethiopia. Last year, six of the 30 kinds of coffee came from trees of the rose summer variety. The reason why many coffees are on the list seems to have a lot to do with the species of trees.
Five of the top 30 coffee varieties selected by the Coffee Review in 2017 came from farms in Panama. other coffee on the list includes 3 varieties from Colombia, 3 varieties from Ethiopia, 3 varieties from Kenya, 2 varieties from Sumatra, 2 varieties from Hawaii, 2 varieties from Rwanda and 2 varieties from El Salvador.
