Uganda is a landlocked country in Africa without relying on the sea, straddling the equator, bordering Kenya to the east, Tanzania and Rwanda to the south, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, and South Sudan to the north. Uganda is mostly located in the East African Plateau with lakes, with an average elevation of 1000 to 1200 meters above sea level. Uganda is known as the "watery village of the plateau". Uganda has vast and magnificent natural beauty unparalleled in East Africa.

The history of coffee cultivation in Uganda dates back to more than 100 years ago, when Uganda first introduced coffee from Ethiopia. Later, Uganda was colonized by the British and Robusta coffee was widely grown there.

Map of coffee producing areas in Uganda

Coffee is the largest crop in Uganda and earns the most foreign exchange. 25 per cent of the country's population is engaged in the coffee industry, and the vast majority of them grow coffee on farms (there are about 500000 coffee farms in Uganda). Of the Ugandan coffee beans, the vast majority are robusta, and only 6% of the beans are Arabica.

The Kawa Cooperative was founded in 1999 and is located in Machakos County, Kenya, about 64 kilometers from the capital Nairobi. The average annual rainfall is 1500mm-1600mm and the average temperature is 210.26 degrees. The soil is volcanic ash soil. The main production season is from April to June, and the miscarriage season is about September. The average annual output of the treatment plant is about 300000 kg. At the same time, cooperatives have passed the Fair Trade Certification (FLO) audit.

The Kawa processing farm has about 1351 members, and farmers pick coffee cherries by hand to make the coffee quality more stable. The harvested coffee cherries will be sent to the treatment plant on the same day for classification-defects such as red fruit, overripening, immaturity and external factors, and the treatment plant uses clean river water for treatment. And then dry through the sun and then carry out the follow-up process.
