Guatemala-La Capra Manor

"La cupula" means the vent for the highest part of the Spanish colonial building. The name was chosen because La Capra is the highest coffee farm in Antigua, 1650-2100 meters above sea level.

In 1870, Mr. Manuel Matthew Simbaldi, the great-grandfather of the current landowner, Mr. Roberto Dalton, was commissioned by the state to plant millions of coffee seedlings in Antigua. Since then, with the hope and encouragement of the country, Mr. Manuel, as a hard-working coffee farmer, has devoted his life to coffee trees on this land.

After that, after four generations of painstaking management, the manor gradually developed. To this day, the family continues to grow coffee in this land with the original intention, using the farming methods handed down from generation to generation, with the same passion and dedication to create coffee flavor for Guatemala.

Antigua has a variety of environmental factors suitable for coffee growth: rich volcanic soil, low air humidity, plenty of sunshine and cool nights.

Every once in a while, the Fuigo volcano (one of the three active volcanoes in Guatemala) sprinkles a layer of mineral-rich volcanic ash on the soil of Antigua, and the volcanic pumice has a good moisturizing effect in the soil, so, although Antigua has the lowest rainfall among the seven coffee producing areas in Guatemala, it does not affect the good growth of coffee trees at all.

In Antigua, the shade is particularly thick to adapt to the cold nights from December to February to protect coffee trees from occasional frosts. The dense shade combined with the diurnal temperature difference in the area has created a unique microclimate in the coffee field.

Coffee beans bred by such a delicate climate are of smooth quality, full-bodied, sour and sweet, with a hint of smoke, unique and mysterious.
