Tabe Burka washing station
The Tabe Burka washing station is located in Uraga woreda and is part of the Guji district. Uraga is adjacent to Ode Shakiso woreda in the southeast and Gedeb woreda (Yirgacheffe) in the west. Download a map of the Guji area to get a full picture of the area.
The founder of the Tabe Burka washing station, Mr. Edema, has coffee in his veins. He comes from a coffee-dominated family with 29 brothers, all of whom work with coffee. His brothers Girma and Dereje are famous in the Guji area because they produce such high-quality coffee in Uraga and Ambela.
Tadesse Edema collects his coffee from 300 small farmers, forming five farmer groups. Each farmer owns about 3 hectares of land, growing corn trees, fake banana trees and fruit trees in addition to coffee crops. When the harvest began, Tedders paid the farmers in advance. This gives the sharecroppers enough motivation to improve the quality of the harvest.
Water from the Burka River is used to wash coffee from the ruins of Taberka. Coffee is fermented for 24-36 hours. Dry naturally for 15-18 days.
