Schilcho washing station

If you cross the Sidamo area from north to south, you enter Dara. Dara is a woreda bordering the Yirgacheffe district. Schilcho washing station is one of Dara's best stations, except Bonko and Korate washing stations.

Schilcho's cherries come from three coffee communities in the Dara region. These farmers can grow up to two hectares of coffee. Besides coffee, you'll also find fake bananas and avocados are popular crops.

Small farmers in three communities deliver their cherries to the Schilcho laundry station. They ground the coffee to a pulp and fermented the remaining beans. Fermentation takes about 36 to 48 hours. Workers in Kaizhang make coffee with clear water from mountain streams. Then, the parchment was spread thinly on the high bed. It takes seven to ten days to dry parchment.

The naturally processed cherries are dried on elevated shelves immediately upon arrival at the Schilcho washing station, and after 18 days they are sent to the contract processing plant in Addis Ababa.
