Cenfrocafe cooperative

The organic and sustainable practices of Cenfrocafe cooperatives are a key part of the success of cooperatives and their growers. Founded in 1999, Cenfrocafe has 11 associations and 2200 grower members. It is a cooperative with 2400 members. The average farm area of a member is 4-10 hectares, which has been developed in the last 30 years.

Farmers use organic compost and bird manure, as well as other organic fertilizers. This is bird droppings, mined from an island near the coast. It is a strong organic fertilizer, adding micronutrients to promote the health of trees. There are ways of pruning, and farmers can avoid overproduction. When rust ravaged other parts of Peru in 2013, the area was resisted because of the health of trees and good pruning practices. Due to the wet conditions of the picking season, the coffee is carefully dried with a paraboloid dryer. What is most impressive is the long-term stability of these coffees. Dried well, these coffees taste very similar, even 11 months after harvest, never completely or inconsistently dry due to lack of aldehydes.

Farmers get extra rewards every time they reach a level of quality. Cenfrocafe co-operative built its own business around cup testing and reasonable batch separation and preparation. Their cup tester was one of the first people in Peru to receive Q grader certification, but more importantly, they have adhered to the principle and art of cup testing for many years. They chose APU coffee with a score of 85 + in the range of 1400-1800 meters and Chasqui coffee with a score of 82-83 in the range of 1200-1800 meters. Even in volatile markets, the stability of members of the cooperative is a testament to their service to growers. We are honored to be a long-term partner of Cenfrocafe and its member manufacturers.
