Fazenda Cetec
For the Masio Custodio and little Izonel brothers, Fazengda Setek is a dream come true. When they were very young, the two brothers worked as coffee pickers in the South Minas region of Brazil. Masio and Izonel had the opportunity to leave the farm to study and graduate as professors.
After teaching at the university, they established CETEC: a technology center in the city of Laras (southern Minas Gerais). A school dedicated to providing education for young people from poor families. This school has trained more than 5000 people in ten years.
Marcio and Izonel were so satisfied and confident about their success in CETEC that they bought a small farm in Itomirim. One day after buying the farm, my brother Isolel Jr. died suddenly. Masio was so disturbed by his brother's death that he instinctively wanted to sell the farm.
But Marcio stayed to commemorate his late brother's dream. Masio's nephew, Hightower Botelho, began to help his uncle, and the farm was named Fazunda Setek: in memory of Izonel Jr. and the work he had done through the Setek school.
Fazenda Cetec invests in the protection and restoration of the local environment-protecting springs and dense forests. They minimize the use of water during processing, while grass growing under trees is used as natural organic matter.
