Invited by Nestl é, a group of more than 20 media interviews from all over the country came here to visit coffee picking, processing and purchasing. In-depth understanding of Yunnan coffee from scratch, and then to become a high-quality small seed coffee producing area of global concern.
In the inconspicuous conference room of the Nestle Agricultural Service Department, the reporter met Nestle coffee expert, than.
Mr. Hute, a Lishman. The local farmer affectionately called him "Mr. Coffee". Hute took the delegation to the Xiaoguzi plantation on the South Island River in Simao District for an interview. Under the blue sky, the coffee trees arranged neatly on the hillside are covered with full and ruddy coffee fruits. The owner, Liao Xiugui, is 73 years old, and the plantation has more than 300 mu. It is gradually developed under the technical help and guidance of Hute and his assistant. It is a supplier to Nestl é.
Nestl é employees told reporters that in 1988 Nestl é (China) became the first company to invest in coffee cultivation here. Globally, Nestl é does not operate any of its own commercial coffee plantations, but focuses on supporting the development of sustainable coffee agriculture in remote rural areas of the countries in which it operates.
In 1992, Nestl é (China) launched a coffee agronomic service department in Yunnan Province to teach advanced and sustainable cultivation methods in the region, introducing new high-yielding small-grain coffee varieties. In 2005, Hute came to Pu'er. He and his colleagues from the Agronomic Service Department climbed the mountains and visited farmers and coffee bases. For more than 9 years, they traveled to various counties, townships and towns of coffee growing areas in Yunnan Province to carry out technical training.
Nestl é is also actively exploring the way to integrate Pu'er coffee with the world, helping Pu'er coffee growers to pass the certification of 4C organization and become 4C members. 4C (Common Code for the CoffeeCommunity) is an international organization dedicated to the sustainable development of coffee cultivation, primary processing and trade. Huth and his team went to coffee growers to check whether they were operating in accordance with the provisions of 4C, such as labor use, water management, pesticide use, animal and plant protection, and so on. So far, more than 2600 partners in five batches have passed 4C certification, benefiting nearly 36000 farmers, covering nearly 200000 mu of acreage. In the purchasing season from the end of this year to the beginning of next year, all coffee beans purchased by Nestl é in Yunnan will meet the internationally recognized 4C standard.
Nestle's activities in Yunnan have led to the development of a coffee bean producing area with low output and low quality into a coffee bean producing area with high yield, high quality and has attracted the attention of the global coffee industry. As a result, Yunnan has become a booming and profitable producing area of high-quality small-seed coffee beans from a traditional tea-growing area.
