Dutch researchers have published a study showing that older men who ate large amounts of cocoa were much less likely to die of disease than those who never ate foods containing cocoa.

The 15-year study involved 470 elderly men between the ages of 65 and 84 living in Zutfen, the Netherlands. Among them, one of the people in 1max 3 didn't eat any cocoa at all, while the other one ate an average of 4.2 grams of cocoa a day. During the period from 1985 to 2000, a total of 314 respondents died. Compared with those who never ate cocoa, those who most loved foods containing cocoa were only half as likely to die from various diseases.

The researchers believe that more research is needed to draw conclusions about the health benefits of cocoa powder in a wider population. And the conclusion of this study involves only men over the age of 65, so it is not certain that it is suitable for all populations.

Antioxidants in cocoa powder and flavanols can improve the function of various cells in the inner wall of blood vessels, while reducing the risk of heart disease, cancer and lung disease caused by cholesterol and its compounds. Flavanols are a kind of flavonoids beneficial to human health, which are widely found in a variety of vegetables, green tea and red wine.
