Mzuzu Coffee is managed by nearly 4000 smallholder coffee growers, growing between 1500 and 2600 meters above sea level, cultivated in canyons or contours of cascading terraces, usually irrigated artificially. At the same time, different varieties according to its characteristics, growers need different gaps, usually rely on organic fertilizers for planting. Unlike other parts of Malawi, Mzuzu Coffee is grown entirely in Arabica varieties, such as New World (old varieties), Agaro, Rosa and high-quality Katim. In order to avoid affecting the quality of coffee, farmers usually start picking coffee fruits at 6: 00 in the morning and process them within 6-8 hours. To ensure excellent flavor, farmers only pick cherries that are ripe to red.
