Are there any other benefits of blending coffee for business besides reducing costs?
Unlike single-serve coffees, which are usually named after the place where they are made, blended coffees are usually named after the brand, or according to the "feel". Just like Lipton black tea, maybe we have been drinking Lipton for many years and never know exactly what kind of black tea Lipton has mixed together. Blended coffee brands almost never disclose their recipes, so when we choose a blend, we choose a brand or flavor, not a specific coffee bean.
Coffee beans are mixed for several purposes:
1. Stable flavor
Because coffee beans are a crop, even the same coffee beans, its flavor will vary from year to year, so mixing several coffee beans together solves this problem well, and the taste can be basically consistent every year.
2. balanced taste
Since the espresso machine has a characteristic that it will amplify the most significant flavor characteristics of coffee beans, we will hardly use a single variety of coffee to make Espresso, otherwise if the coffee beans are bitter, the Espresso will be abnormally bitter, and the acid will be very sour. So we need to balance the flavors through blending.
3. reduce costs
In fact, the cost reduction is due to the coffee producing areas are often affected by natural disasters and man-made disasters, resulting in reduced production. At that time, due to the combination, it is only necessary to find a coffee bean with similar taste and replace the corresponding coffee bean in the formula, instead of having to pay a large price to buy coffee beans that increase in price due to reduced production. But after arriving in China, we creatively appeared coffee blends such as Blue Mountain flavor, which means that we can't drink real Blue Mountain coffee, so we drink Blue Mountain coffee. Anyway, no one knows what Blue Mountain coffee tastes like.
A good formula can create a coffee legend, such as ILLY or LAVAZA, which are well known to our Chinese people. I hope that China will soon have a blend of coffee that really meets the taste of the Chinese people, rather than mixing low-quality coffee beans after deep roasting just for the sake of low cost.
