If you live in New York and are a coffee-free addict, CUPS, an app of the same name developed by the Israeli team CUPS, is definitely worth saving a place for it on your phone's home page.

Currently, CUPS only serves the New York City area. With a monthly plan, users can enjoy the corresponding kinds of coffee or tea drinks in the independent coffee shop. The American Classic package is priced at $45 a month, and users drink unlimited amounts of freshly ground, filtered and hand-brewed coffee or tea drinks, while the more expensive Foreign Flair is priced at $85 a month, and users have an American Classic package with more fancy coffee options such as espresso, cappuccino and latte. In addition, CUPS has other more flexible pricing strategies.

CUPS hopes to connect day-to-day coffee drinkers with independent coffee shops in New York, especially in the Manhattan area, to provide local consumers with options other than large coffee chains such as Starbucks. Gilad Rotem, one of the founders, says it's a prepaid service that offers independent, high-quality coffee. The startup, which is testing CUPS on iOS and Android, hopes to expand the number of franchise stores in New York City to 200 in the coming months, roughly the number of Starbucks stores in Manhattan, according to Rotem.

CUPS is easy to use. Users only need to choose a coffee shop from the store on the home page, choose a drink and give the phone to the clerk to handle. CUPS then pays the coffee shop at a discount, so if the value of the coffee consumed each month does not exceed the monthly fee, CUPS will accept the difference. For coffee shops, the risk of this partnership is also very low, they do not have to pay any fees for joining, so their two extremes are to sell a CUPS user a lot of discounted cups of coffee (equivalent to a long-term member) or not to sell him a cup, but in either case they do not pay a financial price for joining CUPS.
