Introduction of Kachalu Coop (Cachalu Peasants' Association)

In the era of great navigation at the end of the 15th century, when the Spaniards came as conquerors to what is now known as Kachalu land in northeastern Colombia, the indigenous Poymas, who originally lived here, gathered all their treasures and hid them in a cave in order to protect their property and culture. However, these treasures were later preserved, but Poymas did not.
After six centuries, in 1999, 14 coffee farmers set up a cooperative on the land. They boast that they will produce better quality coffee in a more environmentally friendly way. They intend to grow coffee in a better way to take care of native animals and plants while maintaining the local natural environment at the same time, they will also refine coffee beans in a more environmentally friendly way to prevent coffee from being treated at the same time. Pollute the local environment.

They named the cooperative "Kachalu", which means hope in the aboriginal Poima language. In addition to bringing hope to the local natural environment, it also provides another hope for nearby farmers to make a living. They restored the forest, which had been flattened by Spanish conquerors, and converted tobacco, originally a cash crop, into coffee, while the restored forest happened to be used as a shade for coffee and could also be used to protect local endangered species.
Kachalu's efforts to conserve the natural environment have not been in vain because they are the first cooperative in Colombia to be certified by the Rainforest Alliance RFA (Rainforest Alliance). This also means that Kachalu cooperatives can give a better quality of life to the creatures who live on the land, including the people who live here.
People protect the environment, and a good environment produces good quality crops, and people take good crops in exchange for better rewards, which is the positive cycle going on here in Kachalu cooperatives.
Rainforest Alliance certification ensures a good mode of production, while CQI Q coffee certification is a strong endorsement of coffee quality.
