2010 El Salvador COE National Coffee Competition 8th Place La Batalla Estate Award Batch

COE International Coffee Cup auction (details will be posted later on the blog), led by British green bean merchants, can be referred to as the International Coffee Competition. June 17 is the day of the Central American Salvadoran Coffee Competition.

We received 8th place La Batalla Manor and 26th place Santa Barbara Manor. The following is a brief introduction to the 8th place La Batalla Manor in the COE International Coffee Cup.

The average age of the coffee trees at La Batalla Farm is 7 years old (replanted once every 10 years on average), and the farm area is continuously increased. The best area has been selected for the coffee competition and it took four days to harvest. The coffee is a very good bourbon seed. The chicken manure and organic compost keep the soil of the farm nutritious and quality. The farm owner keeps the coffee trees healthy and the soil nutrients are supplemented properly. Shangri-La Farms also grows 2.8 hectares of Pacamara Pacamara Coffee which is expected to be the 5th and 8th place of Shangri-La Farms in the Coffee Contest last year proving that it is a high quality Salvadoran coffee farm and the farm hopes to establish a direct or indirect long-term cooperation with foreign buyers.

La Batalla is the 8th place winner of El Salvador Coffee Contest 2010.

The Costa Rican honey-treated beans have the same brown color as the ones pictured below, which are very popular in Central America these two years.

As you can see from the close-up, this is a bourbon coffee bean.

But the water-treated method La Batalla seems closer to the honey-treated beans.

Overall comments: The farms that won the 2010 COE Coffee Competition in Central America have made great efforts in variety and treatment. Pacamara is a good coffee. Honey treatment and sun treatment are the biggest tools for Central American countries to try to catch up with Kenyan and Ethiopian beans. They also attract the hearts of roasters. Although La Batalla Farm is a water-washed coffee bean, it is close to honey treatment from the appearance or taste of raw beans. Light baked Shangri-La Estate has an unexpected jasmine floral and tea taste, and towards heavy baking it has a steady, thick taste with a huge nutty sweetness in the back, while maintaining a clean and delicate acidity.
