Chicua is a young estate perched on a volcanic mountainside overlooking the magnificent Lake Atitlan, a hilltop paradise formed by hundreds of years of lava erupting from two nearby volcanoes-Atitlan and San Pedro. The word Chicua comes from the Mayan Quiche language, meaning "place where there is water", which perfectly describes the heart and soul of this coffee estate.

The coffee trees of Chigua Estate are grown at an altitude of 1700 to 1800 meters. They grow at quite high altitudes. Sometimes in the early morning hours, the leaves are covered with frost, and then the frost will gradually melt under the sweet sunshine that just rises. As the sun gets stronger, various shade trees, which have been growing there for hundreds of years, play a role in protecting coffee trees, an ecologically important component of this volcanic hillside ecosystem. Sometimes walking in this pleasant green orchard can also be a lot of surprises, such as being hit by fresh avocado fruit dropped!

The new coffee program at Chigua Farm is managed by third and fourth generation coffee growers whose deep love of coffee can be found in the coffee plantations they manage. In constant collaboration with renowned Mayan agriculturalists, Chigua produces coffee that is one of Guatemala's finest.

To combat Roselinia (a root disease), Chigua Estate collaborated with Del Valle University in Guatemala and ANACAFE (Guatemala Coffee Association) to investigate and study ways to combat the disease without affecting the ecological environment.
