Know Ismael and Eduardo Andrade
Ismael Andrade and his family have been growing coffee since 1901. A great deal of expertise and coffee knowledge has been accumulated over the past 100 years, and over the past 25 years, Ismael and his brother Eduardo have applied this experience to Fazenda Sao SIlvestre. The 600ha farm, which is rich in volcanic soil, is one of several farms owned by the Andrader family. According to Brazilian law, they have allocated more than 100 hectares of land to permanent natural forest reserves.
Andrades helped establish the Brazilian Coffee Association (BSCA). They pursue excellence on their farms, combining meticulous crop planning and management with farm processing, and then analyzing them in their on-site BSCA cupping laboratory. The resulting award-winning coffee represents the best coffee in Brazil.
Minas Gerais, Brazil
Take Texas, for example, multiply it by 3 and you get the size of Brazil's cerrado (woodland prairie), one of the most biologically diverse prairies in the world. But for coffee lovers, Syrador refers to an area in the western state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The clay mineral soil here requires continuous fertilization, but coffee plants like hot, humid summers and pleasant dry winters.
Cerrado de Minas, also known as West Minas or "Tri â nguloMineiro", is the first coffee-producing region in Brazil to receive protected geographical indications (PGI). Coffee from here-usually processed naturally. Well balanced, with creamy taste and caramel chocolate flavor. Although coffee farming only came to Hirado 40 years ago, 90% of the farms here are medium-sized (2-300 hectares) to large plantations. Brazilian forest laws now require farmers to set aside 35% of their land for protection.
