Seka Forest Farm

The natives living in the surrounding areas are mainly from the Oromo people. They grow coffee on small plots of land and get natural resources from the surrounding forests. The farm covers an area of 200 hectares and is located in the Oromiya area of Checka kebele. It is located in one of the beautiful natural forest areas of the country, with an average annual rainfall of 700-1200 mm from 1855 to 1958masl.

In order to maintain the integrity of the natural ecosystem, the plantation is managed very carefully. The farm works in harmony with the farmers around it, and the common goal is mutual benefit. The plantation has its own nursery and can reproduce 500000 high-quality seedlings. In the nursery layer, coffee beans are grown in a plastic bag and receive water and organic fertilizer in the shade of grass trees. When the seedlings are transplanted to the farm, no fertilizer is applied because the soil of the planting site is a primeval forest. Coffee grows in the shade of natural trees, and there are more than 15 species of trees on the plantation that can be used as shade trees.

When berries are picked, they are big, red and succulent. There are only red cherries picked from the trees. Extra care should be taken to avoid fermentation before coffee processing. Therefore, the picked red cherries will be sprinkled with a thin layer on the specially prepared flower bed within 4 hours after picking. Cherries are naturally dried in the sun for 6-9 days. The drying time depends on whether there is enough sunshine. After the coffee is dried to the best moisture level (12% of dried cherries), use a dry coffee sheller to remove the shell. For washed coffee, red cherries are treated within 6 hours after picking. The natural fermentation process was used to remove the mucus from the washed coffee.
