Coffee producing areas in Indonesia

Indonesia is an archipelago made up of many volcanic islands, and it has a unique environment for the cultivation of coffee. Among them, Mantenin has become synonymous with Indonesian boutique coffee, and because Indonesia belongs to the archipelago system, most coffee producing areas are distinguished by islands:

The main planting areas are Aceh in Aceh and Danau Toba in Lake Toba, among which Aceh is the main producing area of Mantenin.

Manning Coffee

According to historical records, Mantenin is not an Indonesian origin or variety, but a homonym for Mandaining, a nation from Sumatra who is very good at growing coffee. During World War II, Japanese officers stationed in Indonesia felt that the flavor of the local coffee was amazing, so they asked the shop owner the name of the coffee. However, due to the language gap between them, the Mandaining nation became Mandenin coffee, which continues to this day.

Mandarin Coffee is mainly produced in Sumatra, Sumatra, so it is also known as Sumatran coffee beans. Besides coffee beans, spices such as chili and cardamom are also important crops in Sumatra. In planting, the two flavors blend with each other, so the coffee beans are stained with a little spice flavor, so Mantenin coffee has a rich flavor and herbaceous flavor.

On the other hand, Mantenin coffee beans were mainly processed in half the sun. at first, due to poor equipment of farmers, they needed to move coffee beans back and forth to avoid mildew when they came into contact with Rain Water. Coffee farmers took advantage of bad weather to bring coffee beans into the treatment plant to remove pectin layer, which also created the characteristics of low acidity and strong flavor of Mantenin.

Kopi Luwak / civet coffee

It can be said to be the most expensive coffee in the world, which comes from the excrement of civets. After eating coffee beans, civets ferment, shed their shells, remove their shells, and then expel them from the body after they are finished by the digestive system. After being cleaned and processed by coffee farmers, Kopi Luwak / civet coffee is the rarest and most expensive coffee in the world. The research is more helpful to reduce the irritation of coffee to the stomach and intestines.

The grade of Indonesian coffee

In Indonesia, coffee beans are rated on the basis of the number of defects. 300g of raw beans can be classified to the highest grade (G1) if the defect status is less than 11, and more than 11 will be classified into G2 or even G3 according to the number of defects. Interestingly, although most coffee in Indonesia is robusta coffee beans, and the production of fine coffee is less than half of Indonesia's total coffee production, but in these very small amount of boutique coffee, it includes the world-famous manning coffee, golden manning, aged manning, and the most expensive Kopi Luwak / civet coffee. . Wait, this is why Indonesia is still admired by drinkers in the world of fine coffee!
