A large crowd of fans wait in line for the opening of a fully equipped Starbucks store in Shinjuku, Tokyo, on the afternoon of December 22. The store, called White Winter Starbucks, is Japan's first all-white Starbucks, presented in white from the inside to the outside, as a winter holiday gift from Starbucks to the Japanese.

What's so special about White Winter Starbucks?

First of all, they have their own drink lists, which are different from ordinary stores, and offer special versions of winter drinks and cakes-they won't be officially available on the Japanese market until December 26.

Secondly, Starbucks also specially hired the Suppose Design Office design studio of famous architect Tanjiri and Ai Yoshida to carry out the design with "Snow Field" as the core concept.

Visually, Suppose Design Office paints the whole coffee shop white from the inside to the outside, and then matches the lights to create a warm winter atmosphere; auditory, the interior of the store is covered with soft snow-white sound-absorbing material to reduce indoor noise and create a sense of stillness on the snow. In addition, Suppose Design Office also implanted loudspeakers at some points to play "the Sound of Winter", which really made people feel chilly when they walked in.

In this way, with the use of visual, audio, light and shadow effects, Starbucks really looks like building an igloo in Shinjuku, which provides warm coffee. The contrast effect is wonderful.

But this is not the first time Starbucks has opened an all-white coffee shop in Japan. In 2012, they held hands with nendo to bring a pop-up store with the theme of "Starbucks espresso Journey", creating a quiet and warm feeling with ivory floors and bookshelves, and then guide consumers to pick books, read about coffee culture and buy coffee, which became a global topic for a while.

At present, this all-white Starbucks store, run by Suppose Design Office, is still open and is as restricted in winter as drinks, so students who have the opportunity to go to Tokyo this winter should try it.
