Last Updated: 2025/08/21, Washed Papua New Guinea coffee always has a brighter, more sour performance, similar to the flavor of Central American coffee. Large estates / farms (plantation) usually have their own washing plants, and smaller individual coffee farmers are more likely to control the quality and flavor of their output. Wash treated Papua New Guinea coffee always has a brighter, more acidic appearance, similar to the flavor of Central American coffee. Large plantations often have their own washing plants, and smaller individual coffee farmers are more able to control the quality and flavor of their output. Chimel Estate, located in the Wiki Valley of the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea near the Kimel Valley, has its own washing plant like many large farms/estates, but in fact it is owned by many independent coffee farmers of the surrounding Opais ethnic group. In a sense, it is a private cooperative. Due to the excellent growing conditions and stable quality control process of the processing plant, the coffee produced has a lively bright feeling and retains a considerable degree of flavor uniqueness of Papua New Guinea coffee.

Another peculiarity is that the variety of coffee varieties grown by Chimaier cannot even be counted on a single hand: Typica, Arusha, Blue Mountain, Mundo Novo, Catimor, Caturra... and more-in fact, just as most farmers do not put their eggs in the same basket, most farmers actually plant different varieties to avoid the risk that a particular variety will fail to grow or produce as expected, which also makes their coffee flavor interesting.
