Rwanda, located in central Africa, has attracted the attention of coffee-producing countries because of its excellent coffee quality in recent years.
The pattern of production in Rwanda is similar to that in Ethiopia, where regional cooperatives integrate small farmers in the region to form the main production force, such as the Ambarkanda cooperative.
The Ambarkanda Cooperative, founded in 2005, is located about 30 kilometers northwest of the capital, Jijali, and now has about 2000 members and two exclusive washing facilities. The cooperative is committed to organic cultivation and natural farming to make coffee cherries rich and complete with sweet high-quality berries. In the treatment plant, the normal washing method is used to soak for 48 hours to make the flavor of raw beans more mature and increase the characteristics, supplemented by scaffolding exposure with a large number of manpower to pick out the bad beans that may be caused by soaking for a long time or other reasons. Coupled with the introduction of a fair trade model to improve the income of farmers and the infrastructure of villages, farmers can afford education and medical services.
All kinds of efforts have a virtuous circle, making farmers more willing and able to put into the production of high-quality coffee, so that the quality of coffee has increased year after year by 2010, 2011, and 2012 for three consecutive years. Ambarkanda Cooperative is on the list of COE in Rwanda, which is the most indicative affirmation!
