Karana introduction
Karana is a boutique raw bean company co-founded by three hot-blooded coffee makers from different parts of the world: Rodney Glick, an Australian artist, Thomas Sproten, a coffee hunter from Germany, and Kadek Edi, a young Bali baker. They have combined many local micro coffee producers and farmers to create a distinctive coffee flavor from the area of Mount Kintamani and to create the only boutique coffee shop in the area.
In 2016, Rodney successfully experimented with three different batches, including water washing, honey treatment and sun treatment, with excellent flavor, much more than the general batch of origin, and even better overall defect rate and uniformity than fine beans from Central America. In addition to the bright and complex acidity of water washing and honey treatment, sun-treated batches even have more aromas of ripe peaches, pineapples, mangoes and other tropical fruits and fruit wines than Panamanian sun beans. Karana's concept has been greatly echoed in Bali, but apart from coffee itself and commercial achievements, they also recognize that there are problems in life, education, industry, culture, and so on, so in the process of selling coffee, they also return its profits to the children's educational institutions in the local village, such as building schools or purchasing educational facilities, so as to contribute to the education of future children.
