Elida Estate is located in the Boquete region of Chiriqui, the western border province of Panama. The province's most famous landmark and tourist attraction is Mount Baru, one of the highest volcanoes in Central America, at 3300 metres above sea level.
It covers an area of about 14000 hectares and can be divided into 7 different microclimate zones according to altitude. There are many rare plants, birds and mammals living in the volcanic range, so it is protected as a national park. Hunting and human development and destruction are prohibited. The Boquet producing area is located on the east side of Balu volcano and is a valley area where volcanic lava flows. Adjacent to another well-known coffee producing area in Panama-Volcan Valley (Volcan Valley), Poquet has always been Panama's most eye-catching coffee producing area, with many world-famous estates-Emerald Estate (Esmeralda), Hartman Estate of Best of Panama's winning army (Hartman), Mama Cata Estate (Mama Cata), Kotowa Estate (Kotowa), Santa Teresa Estate (Santa Teresa)... etc. Elida Manor itself is one of the heavyweight star estates in the Beauquet region. It has won the Best of Panama award for the last five years, second only to Esmeralda.
Elida Estate, owned by the Lamastus family, has been growing coffee since 1918. In addition to growing coffee in the estate, there is now another Eimbro estate besides Elida Estate.(El Burro), two estates can enter the bidding in 2015, a total of seven beans, in addition to coffee, but also planted a lot of native trees, not only for coffee shade, wild protection ecology, this family treats coffee trees with artificial fertilization, refused to use environmentally damaging herbicides and pesticides. In addition to kaduai, tibika and bourbon, the geisha variety was planted in previous years, even though there were many varieties of coffee on the estate. Kaduai is still used in the Best of Panama competition, and its repeated success shows the excellent geographical environment and processing technology of its estate.
The Elyda Estate itself is a Poquete Star Estate, one of the two highest coffee estates in Panama. (Another estate with this elevation should be Carmen Estate in the Vulcan Valley.) The total area of the estate is 65 hectares, more than half of which are located in the Baru Volcano National Park, of which only 30 hectares are planted with coffee, and the remaining 35 hectares are virgin forests. Due to the high altitude, the low temperature for many years delays the ripening of coffee berries, but also because of the proximity of volcanoes, volcanic soils provide rich nutrients for coffee cultivation. That's why the beans from this estate are so successful in competitions.

Even if it's the same beans from Panama's Alida Estate, are there big differences in flavor between different varieties? Front Street Coffee compared the two varieties of [Iron Pickup] and [Kaduai] from Elida Manor.
cup test
[Elida Iron Pickup]: Fermented fruity and jasmine fragrance, sour taste of peach and orange, sour and sour vibration, obvious sweetness of raisins and sucrose, overall feeling sweet.
[Elida Kaduai]: It has a fermented wine fragrance and rose fragrance. The taste has berry, citrus and green tea flavors. Cream, nut aftertaste and sugar sweetness. The overall balance is relatively balanced.
hand-washed
Filter cup: V60
Water temperature: 89℃
Grindability: BG 5R (58% pass rate of Chinese standard No.20 sieve)
Powder water ratio: 1:15
Technique: 30 grams of water steams for 30 seconds, small water slowly injected to 125 grams for segmentation, and so on when the water level drops to expose the powder bed, continue to inject water to 230 grams of water.
[Elida Iron Pickup]: Orange, citrus acid tone, with fermented wine fragrance, raisin, preserved fruit sweet feeling, sour and sour shock, black tea aftertaste, sucrose, caramel sweet back lasting.
[Arida Kaduai]: Citrus, berry acid notes, raisin sweetness, nutty, chocolate, cream flavor, pine kernel aftertaste.
A comparison of Front Street coffees found that Elida Manor's iron pickups tend to have a fruity sweet flavor, while Kaduai has a nutty, chocolatey flavor.
