White storefronts welcome warm sunlight with large glass windows, and black and white mosaic honeycomb tiles on the ground elegantly guide visitors to the house number;Hartland on Hudson, located on the Catskill Mountains west of the Hudson River in New York State, was built by a young couple Emily Johnson and Nic Cameron. The entrance ushered in a burst of coffee fragrance, combined with coffee bar card stationery shop, simple elegant with a girl's colorful Qi thought.

Emily founded Hartland Brooklyn Studio in Brooklyn, New York, in 2012 to begin her card illustration design. Growing up in Hartland, a small town in western New York, Emily's grandmother was a watercolor painter, her parents were art creators, and Emily was originally engaged in underwear design, and painting was like her natural mission. Accidental opportunity, because want to give people a card but can not find the right one, she had an inspiration "why not draw one yourself!" Because of this, Emily received a lot of attention, and the design of cards carrying thoughts or blessings became Emily's main business. She turned the dry flower garden where she played as a child into inspiration, and all kinds of flowers, dried flowers and butterflies flew in her pen."Hartland" naturally became the name of the store.

In the spring of 2015, Emily and her husband, Nic, an audio engineer, moved to the foot of Catskill Mountain, two hours from New York City, to expand their studio, attracted by the store, which was built in 1851 and used to be an old grocery store. The two of them began to renovate the old house, personally designing the wallpaper in the room, and finding carpenters from all over New York State to work together to create coffee bars, wooden tables, and display cabinets; some of the furniture retains the style of the 1920s, echoing the facade of the same era. The white-painted brick walls hint at the age of the building, the gray coffee bar is placed opposite, the sun shines obliquely on the wood grain floor to announce a beautiful day, the plants and flowers in the corners are decorated, and the handmade flowers, planets and butterflies on Emily posters and card papers are echoed.

"Through the design of stationery, not only the combination of painting but also to meet my creative richness." Emily draws inspiration from life and nature, and the people and things she meets during her travels turn into everyday landscapes. Hand-drawn and then produced by computer output, Hartland on Hudson card and print design, from paper selection to color matching are key links; not only the card is printed in New York, but also insists on using plant ink and environmentally friendly recyclable materials for production_although the cost is relatively high, she firmly believes in her own philosophy: to make the right, environmentally friendly choice.

Irving Farm coffee and Harney and Sons teas, hand-roasted beans from Manhattan, coincide with card making and are locally selected. "Creating a comfortable space for people to sip a good cup of coffee" is exactly what Emily and Nic are trying to create for visitors. I think what coffee and cards have in common is that temperature; come here and you can drink Hartland on Hudson's hottest maple latte, or you can buy a card, both of which, although unrelated, are beautiful things refined by temperature. A warm-hearted card requires the input of the creator and the blessing of the author; and a cup of strong coffee requires good quality coffee beans and proper temperature brewing; and for them, providing a beautiful coffee shop for both is a pleasure.
