Last Updated: 2024/11/03, Kigali (CNFIN.COM/ XINHUA08.COM)-the World Bank said on the 28th that it will strongly support the coffee growing industry in Burundi. Since the beginning of this year, the coffee growing industry in Burundi has continued to decline due to a lack of adequate management of coffee growers.

Philip Dongji, director of the World Bank project in Burundi, Uganda and Tanzania, said the World Bank has prepared a project to improve the production and quality of coffee. In this way, farmers across Burundi can benefit more from producing higher-quality coffee. Dongji also said that the World Bank will continue to support the energy sector in Burundi, as energy is the engine of industrial development and job creation. It is reported that the board of directors of the World Bank recently approved 100 million US dollars to support the construction of hydroelectric dams in Burundi.

Coffee is the main cash crop in Burundi, but due to the lack of reasonable management of growers and the drought in May, coffee production is expected to decline by 50 per cent this year.
