This is a test written by a coffee lover from the United States. He says he has always been in the habit of studying, so ever since he fell in love with coffee, he has been studying how to make the perfect cup of coffee at home. After spending a month studying different bean grinders, he wrote this comparative evaluation of four hand grinders. In addition, he also warmly reminds you that he only evaluates the rough grinding (hand pulping) performance of the bean grinder, and is only suitable for Hario V60 filter cup, Philharmonic pressure, kalita cake filter cup, smart cup, and chemex filter cup. To get back to the point, here are the four machines he selected: Porlex Mini, Hario Mini, adjusted Hario Skerton and Lido2.

Porlex Mini

When in use, he pasted a layer of paper between the inner wall of the porlex and the outside of the outer ring sharpening knife, which is indeed a little helpful for better stability.

Advantages: the porlex is the most comfortable and the smallest and simplest portable machine among the four bean grinders. It can be put perfectly in the Philharmonic pressure. This machine has high appearance, little resistance to grinding beans, and is very smooth.

Disadvantages: the coffee ground with it is the most uneven in thickness (both coarse and fine powder) and has a low performance-to-price ratio.

Purchase advice: portable and convenient, the workmanship is not perfect.

HARIO MINI MILL

He modified the mini with scotch tape (an American brand of tape, very common), and the uniformity improved significantly.

Pros: the HARIO MINI MILL is the second smallest of the four. You can tie the rubber belt between the mini and the Philharmonic pressure so that you can remove the powder bucket and grind the beans directly on the Philharmonic pressure, and the thickness is quite uniform. This machine is cheap and easy to modify.

Disadvantages: the uniformity of HARIO MINI MILL is general. The powder bucket is made of plastic and is not durable.

Purchase advice: exquisite and portable, it's good to be a backup. Because the price is not high, it will not be a pity even if it breaks down.

HARIO SKERTON with OE MOD

The modification of OE improves the uniformity of rough grinding.

Pros: cheap. The second best machine has the least fine powder.

Disadvantages: it is not convenient to modify. This machine is a little big, but it doesn't taste as good as that made by Baratza or other large machines.

Purchase advice: the author thinks he still prefers this to hario mini. It can rank second in grinding quality.

LIDO

Advantages: of course, it has the best grinding quality, the thickness is very uniform, and even the Baratza and other large machines do not have much difference. The operation is simple (can be twisted infinitely), and the workmanship is very good, like a handicraft. Comfortable to use, with a rubber travel box included with the product. Grinding is very fast and can be modified.

Disadvantages: large size. There are many glass parts and the price is high.

Purchase advice: it feels like Lido and the other three are not the same level of products. The design is very considerate, recommended to buy.
